We use creativity to promote personal and social development throughout school life. Manchester Camerata musicians create music alongside young people and everyone’s ideas are valued. New pieces are performed alongside the orchestra at events or concerts, recorded for children and young people to take home, and used as learning resources for teachers. Evidence shows our work raises self-confidence and self-esteem, which impacts upon wider school engagement and achievement. This is not an enrichment activity but rather a core part of learning. Music is a powerful tool for expression, communication and social connection. Older people, people living with dementia, and people with additional needs come together in weekly projects to create music alongside Manchester Camerata musicians. We believe in creating a flexible, open space for people to explore their feelings and make choices about how they want to be involved in a music session.
