Chetham’s School of Music Listening Project
01.11.2017
Throughout the academic year we are delivering a project with Chetham’s School of Music which aims to support GCSE music pupils to improve their ‘listening’ skills and gain insights into new aspects of listening. The first stage of the project began in September; six Camerata musicians and six Chetham’s pupils joined together to plan a series of workshops for other high schools based on the topic of listening.
The co-delivery team discussed how to act on feedback they had received from schools about the challenges of their listening exam and how they could encourage pupils to consider aspects of listening in a practical setting. On 21stNovember, pupils from Loreto and William Hulme High Schools will take part in an interactive concert at the Stoller Hall in which the ensemble of 12 musicians will present their perspectives on listening. A series of workshops at Loreto and William Hulme will then take place between autumn 2017 and spring 2018, co-delivered by Manchester Camerata musicians and Chetham’s students.
