Camerata making music in moss side
From September to December 2017, Manchester Camerata practitioners and the Community team are making weekly visits to four sheltered housing schemes in the Moss Side area, in partnership with Mosscare St. Vincent’s Housing Group. The residents from each centre are creating songs and drama on the subject of their ‘Journey to Home’. Many have come from abroad and settled in Manchester, while some were born in the area, travelled extensively within their lifetime, but have found their way back one way or another. Manchester Camerata in Japan
In September 2017, Manchester Camerata musicians Amina Cunningham and Naomi Atherton returned to Japan with Lucy Geddes, Head of Camerata in the Community, for the second phase of the Music & Ageing project. In collaboration with the British Council, the team delivered a week of training for Japanese musicians with regards to music-making with older people and people living with dementia. The project partners included Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Uneo Gakuen University and Kawasaki City Council. Tram Tracks
This year, a number of our groups have been involved with the Tram Tracks project delivered by The Bridgewater Hall and Transport For Greater Manchester. A group of young people from our Songlines project were invited to perform their piece inspired by Exchange Square at the project launch at Bridgewater Hall on 9th July, and on 9th September the groups from the Johnny Barlow Theatre Group and Hearts and Minds performed their pieces (Audenshaw and Droylsden) at the Bridgewater Hall 25th anniversary celebration.
