Nelson Mandela Day

In July, Camerata composer Richard Taylor and clarinettist Hannah McCabe visited Ladybridge Primary School in Stockport to celebrate Nelson Mandela Day. Throughout the day, each class wrote part of a new song, each focusing on a topic for which Nelson Mandela fought during his lifetime. These included subjects of racism and segregation and how the issues are relevant to the pupils’ own lives today. The celebrations culminated in an assembly at the end of the day, during which the whole school combined their verses into the final song they had created. This song is now being used as the school’s song in their regular assemblies.
