Citc Who Runs The World Concert

On 5th March 2018, 30 young women from two local high schools, Loreto High School took to the stage to perform their very own piece alongside the orchestra, conducted by Jessica Cottis. The piece began the concert Who Runs the World, in celebration International Women’s Day and was met with rapturous applause from the audience.

The piece called ‘I am – Who I am’ was composed during workshops led by Kate Pearson throughout January and February. The two groups discussed their role models and shared their own experiences and aspirations in their first session, which sparked the piece’s creation. The young women worked in groups or individually to come up with their own set of lyrics, and then worked together to create musical motifs and harmony. Kate then took all the musical ideas and lyrics to orchestrate it into one
piece, which was edited and finished through the help and feedback from both
groups.

Bringing their ideas together, the songs takes us through stories of the women that
inspire the young women, ending in a rapturous, up-beat section that proclaims
they are their own selves and are each on their own journey.
